Seller-provided details for this listing.

Industrial metal fabrication offers a number of ways to cleanly and precisely reshape iron, steel, brass, copper, and a host of other durable materials. True, we specialize in fine-tuned, versatile laser fabrication – after all, our name wasn’t exactly pulled from a hat – but plasma cutting is quite easily one of the machining field’s most broadly useful and efficient means of slicing through heavy, thick materials that frustrate saws and even other varieties of torches.
Every now and then, it’s eye-opening to look “beneath the hood” and gain an understanding for just how a concept or tool works and what makes it so effective in its application. What’s more, a nuts-and-bolts comprehension of anything will help clarify not exactly what it does well, but where it should probably never be used.
PLASMA
For those who have never really thought about how and why plasma cutting works, plasma itself is matter’s “fourth state” – instead of having an energy level that defines it as simply a solid, liquid or gas, energy added to steam creates an ionized gas that conducts electricity. A plasma-cutting torch cuts by directing transferred electrically generated energy through whatever material is in front of it.
Generating that energy from a standard plasma arc cutting system requires a power supply, arc-starting circuit and torch to produce clean, productive cuts. The arc-starting circuit manufactures anywhere from 5,000 to 10,000 volts of AC juice from a constant-current DC power source in the 240 to 400 VDC range at approximately 2 megahertz to ionize the plasma-producing gas with a sustained high-intensity arc.
The torch itself cools the working parts with either gas or water, but also constricts and maintains the cutting plasma jet through its electrode and consumable nozzle.
WHY IT’S EFFECTIVE
Plasma cutting has notable advantages that boil down to three general areas: what it cuts, how it cuts, and fabrication time it saves when used und
