Description

Seller-provided details for this listing.

The Human and Environmental Physiology Research Unit (HEPRU) at the University of Ottawa are recruiting participants for a Physiology study entitled "Whole-body cooling following exercise-induced hyperthermia: biophysical considerations? (See description below). For participating in the study you will receive an aerobic fitness assessment (VO2 max) on a treadmill and a body composition test (Hydrostatic weighing). Scheduling is in the morning and participants will be asked to complete two experimental trials lasting approximately 3.5 hours each. Experimental trials can be done either during the week or on weekends, separated by a minimum of 48 hours.

Whole-body cooling following exercise-induced hyperthermia: biophysical considerations

The following study examines the influence of biophysical factors on core temperature cooling rates during whole-body water immersion following exercise in the heat. This study involves two experimental trials lasting approximately 3.5 hours each. For each trial, there will be a ~45 minute exercise period of running on a treadmill in the heat (Thermal chamber maintained at 40.0°C, 20% relative humidity) until core temperature reaches 40.0°C. Immediately following exercise, the participant will be immersed up to the clavicles in a circulating water bath controlled at either 2 or 26°C, based on trial randomization. The participant will remain in the from the water bath until core temperature returns to 37.5°C. Throughout the experimental trials, core and skin temperatures, skin blood flow, oxygen consumption, heart rate and blood pressure will be measured.

Inclusion/Exclusion Criteria:

Male (only) ages 18-45
No history of respiratory, metabolic or cardiovascular disease (Or on medications relating to these)
Must be physically active (~3 x/wk at a medium intensity)
