Description

Seller-provided details for this listing.

Materials you'll need:
- 1 egg
- 1 cup of vinegar
- A clear jar or glass

Instructions:
1. Pour 1 cup of vinegar into the jar.
2. Gently add the egg to the jar.
3. Observe what happens (you should see bubbles rising from the egg).
4. Leave the egg in the vinegar for 24 hours.

After 24 hours, remove the egg and feel it. Notice how the eggshell has become soft.

Here's what's happening: Eggs contain "calcium carbonate," which makes them hard. Vinegar contains acetic acid. When calcium carbonate from the eggshell reacts with acetic acid in the vinegar, it causes a chemical reaction that releases carbon dioxide gas, which forms bubbles. This reaction continues until all the carbon from the eggshell is used up, usually taking about a day. Once you remove the egg, you'll notice it's soft because the carbon has escaped in those bubbles.

Experiment further: Leave the same egg out on the table for another day and observe any changes.
