Here's a fun and simple science experiment you can try at home with just a few household items: one egg, one cup of vinegar, and a clear jar or glass.

**Instructions:**

1. Pour one cup of vinegar into the jar.
2. Gently place the egg into the vinegar.
3. Observe what happens next. You should see bubbles forming around the egg.
4. Let the egg sit in the vinegar for about a day.

After a day, take the egg out and feel it. You’ll notice that the eggshell has become soft. Here’s what’s happening: Eggs are made of calcium carbonate, which is what gives them their hard shell. Vinegar contains acetic acid. When these two substances interact, a chemical reaction occurs, releasing carbon dioxide gas. This is what causes the bubbles you see. The reaction continues until all the calcium carbonate is used up, which takes about a day. Once removed from the vinegar, the egg feels soft because the carbon has left the shell in the form of gas bubbles.

For an extended experiment, try leaving the same egg out on the table for another day and observe any changes.
