Here's a fun and easy science experiment you can try at home: You'll need one egg, one cup of vinegar, and a clear jar or glass.
Start by pouring one cup of vinegar into the jar, then gently add the egg. You'll notice bubbles forming around the egg almost immediately. Leave the egg in the vinegar for a full day. After 24 hours, take the egg out and feel its texture. You’ll find that the shell has become soft.
So, what's happening here? The eggshell is made of calcium carbonate, which gives it its hard structure. Vinegar, which contains acetic acid, reacts with the calcium carbonate. This reaction releases carbon dioxide gas, which is what creates the bubbles you see. The process continues until all the carbon in the eggshell is used up, leaving the shell soft.
For an extra twist, let the egg sit out on a table for another day and see what changes occur.
