Description

Seller-provided details for this listing.

To conduct this fun and simple science experiment at home, you'll need just a few items:

**Materials Needed:**
- 1 egg
- 1 cup of vinegar
- A clear jar or glass

**Instructions:**

1. Pour 1 cup of vinegar into the jar.
2. Gently place the egg into the vinegar.
3. Observe what happens—you should see bubbles rising from the egg.
4. Leave the egg in the vinegar for 24 hours.

After a day, remove the egg and feel its texture. Notice how the eggshell feels soft.

**What’s Happening:**

Eggshells are made of a compound called calcium carbonate, which gives them their hardness. Vinegar contains acetic acid, which reacts with the calcium carbonate in the eggshell. This reaction produces carbon dioxide gas, visible as bubbles on the egg's surface. The process continues until all the carbon in the eggshell is used up, which takes around a day. Once you take the egg out, you'll find the shell has softened because the carbon has escaped as gas.

**Additional Experiment:**

After removing the egg from the vinegar, let it sit out on the table for another day. Observe any changes that occur.
