Colonel By Day celebrates the accomplishments of Lt. Colonel John By and his workers in constructing the Rideau Canal and founding of Bytown; our present day Ottawa! Now in its 17th year, this heritage event has expanded to include new performances and activities which are sure to entertain the whole family!
Join CHOO/COPO and the Bytown Museum to commemorate Colonel By with a FREE fun-filled day of heritage. The festival will feature costumed characters and historically-based theatre; musketry, blacksmithing, rug braiding demonstrations; Traditional dancing; children's heritage-themed games and storytelling by local storyteller Ruthanne Edward; musical performances by FiddleGround and Heritage Hands Ottawa Drum Club; professional face painting; tabletop exhibits from local heritage groups and museums; a Celtic Cross Commemoration Ceremony; the new Colonel By Bistro, free admission to the Bytown Museum, and much more!
