I charge a flat per minute fee based on the number of actual minutes of audio that need to be transcribed (e.g. a 26-minute interview) and the quality of the audio. This ensures clients know the final charge ahead of time.
$2.00 cdn/audio minute for high quality audio and one-on-one interviews.
$3.00 cdn/audio minute for low quality audio or focus groups with 2 or more interviewees. (Some audio recordings may be so poor they will be refused.)
Using a high quality audio recording device and recording best-practices are important; both will save you money.
